Hands-on Training on Permaculture aligning to Connect to Earth organised at Tarku- Tanak
Namchi, 21 August:
A one-day awareness and hands on training on Permaculture was organized by the Tarku-Tanak Gram Panchayat Unit at the Tarku Agricultural and Horticultural Centre in collaboration with State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Karfectar.
The institute's Field Facilitator, Roshan Kaushik, explained that permaculture, or permanent agriculture, is a natural farming system.
He stated that SIRD&PR is making an active effort to cascade this system to every farmer and that it is being promoted as part of the "Connect to Earth" campaign by the honorable Chief Minister of the state.
It was explained that this farming method helps care for the planet, people, and the future. It also aids in the conservation of soil and energy.
Students from PM SHRI Temi Senior Secondary School, PM SHRI Tarku Secondary School, and Manjushri Public School participated in the event. The practical training took place on land adopted by Tarku-Tanak, where participants constructed sandwich beds, prepared Jeevamrut (a natural liquid fertilizer), and dug small pits for water harvesting.
The event was attended by notable personalities, including Mr. Durga Prasad Sharma, Zilla Panchayat Member of Temi-Tarku, Mr. Roshan Rai, Block Development Officer, Mr. Badri Pradhan, Horticulture Development Officer and elected representatives of the Tarku-Tanak Gram Panchayat Unit Mr. Narendra Chhetri, Panchayat President, Ms. Binita Chhetri, Vice-President and Panchayat Members, Mr. Krishna Kumar Bhurtel, Ms. Rudramaya Chhetri, Ms. Doma Devi Sharma, Mr. LB Poudyal and teachers from 3 participating Schools.
