Three-Day Residential Workshop for SRGs and Nodal Teachers
Gangtok, August 21:
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), in partnership with Jodo Gyan, New Delhi, organized a three-day residential workshop for members of the State Resource Group (SRGs) and Nodal Teachers from eight nodal schools from 18th to 20th August 2025 at Hotel Maple Wood, Gangtok. The programme was organised by SCERT, under the framework of the Special Numeracy Programme (SNP).
Participation:
A total of 65 SRGs and Nodal Teachers from across the State actively took part in the workshop.
Objectives of the Workshop:
1. Strengthen the capacity of SRGs and Nodal Teachers in implementing the Special Numeracy Programme in their schools.
2. Prepare them to conduct mathematics classes for Grades 1–3 in their respective schools during September 2025.
3. Build conceptual clarity and pedagogical practices for early mathematics.
4. Facilitate preparation for the upcoming 5th Cluster Level Workshops across the State.
Key Discussions and Activities
- The sessions focused on multiplicative thinking and addition and subtraction up to 1000, with practical demonstrations and activity-based strategies.
- Teachers engaged in group discussions, peer learning, and hands-on classroom simulations to strengthen pedagogical practices.
- A reflective session was held on achievements during the Term 1 assessments conducted in their respective schools. Participants shared insights on student progress, classroom challenges, and effective practices that supported learning.
- Collaborative planning was carried out to develop a uniform classroom framework for implementation during September.
Outcomes:
5. Participants deepened their understanding of foundational number operations and strategies for multiplicative thinking.
6. A shared action plan was created for classroom implementation in September, ensuring consistency across all nodal schools.
7. Teachers developed readiness to support upcoming cluster-level workshops, where they will serve as academic leaders.
8. The workshop fostered peer exchange and collaboration, strengthening the network of SRGs and Nodal Teachers.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Rabin Chhetri, Director, SCERT, Education Department who highlighted the importance of strengthening foundational numeracy in the early grades and encouraged participants to serve as resource leaders in their respective schools and districts. The programme was coordinated by Rajiv Philip, Deputy Director, SCERT, Education Department, Government of Sikkim.
