Site Inspection for Proposed Dialysis Centre at CHC Jorethang
Namcgi, 19 August:
In line with the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in South Sikkim, Shri Tshewang Gyachho, IAS, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, conducted a site inspection at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Jorethang, to assess the feasibility of establishing a Dialysis Centre under District Hospital Namchi.
The inspection was accompanied by senior officials of the Health & Family Welfare Department including the Principal Directors of Health Services, Chief Medical Officer (Namchi District), District Nodal Officer (Namchi), Additional Director of Health Services, Specialist (District Hospital Namchi), Medical Officer In-Charge (CHC Jorethang), Dialysis In-Charge (District Hospital Namchi), and Dialysis Technician (District Hospital Namchi). Also present were officials from the Engineering Division including the Chief Engineer (Civil), Additional Chief Engineer (Mechanical), Divisional Engineer (Civil), and Junior Engineer (Electrical) along with staff of CHC Jorethang.
Mr. Pavitra Manav, Hon’ble Panchayat President, NJNP, and the Municipal Executive Officer, NJNP also took part in the inspection.
During the visit, the Secretary highlighted the urgent need for dialysis services due to the growing number of patients on the waiting list. Departments and facilities within CHC Jorethang were inspected, and interactions were held with medical and administrative staff. The importance of punctuality, discipline, and quality patient care was stressed, while the efforts of the healthcare staff were acknowledged.
It was affirmed that establishing a Dialysis Centre at CHC Jorethang is both technically and operationally feasible. The facility will significantly enhance nephrology services in the region. The Secretary assured that the Dialysis Centre will be made functional on or before January 2026. To ensure smooth functioning, emphasis was laid on infrastructure readiness, procurement of equipment, and staff training. Directions were issued to all concerned officers to expedite the necessary processes for timely completion.
In continuation of the programme, the Secretary and the inspection team also visited Melli PHC for a general inspection of its facilities and services. During this visit, the team reviewed the overall infrastructure of the PHC, interacted with medical and support staff, and assessed the functioning of essential health services being provided to the public. The Secretary stressed the need to maintain proper cleanliness, discipline, and patient-friendly service delivery in the PHC, and assured that the department will continue working towards strengthening primary healthcare facilities across the state.
