Gangtok, August 19:

The Institute for Transforming Sikkim (ITS) convened a review meeting with key stakeholders, the Sikkim Lepcha Literary Organisation, Sikkim Lepcha Association, and Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association to assess the ongoing progress of the RumlyangTingrong (Stairway to Heaven) Project at Daramdin, West Sikkim. The meeting was chaired by ITS Vice Chairman, Shri C. P. Sharma, and attended by all members of the Institute.
Discussions centered on evaluating the pace of work, identifying existing challenges, and finding solutions to avoid further delays. Emphasis was placed on executing the project in a way that upholds its deep cultural and heritage significance.
Representatives from the Lepcha associations underscored the importance of completing the project within the stipulated timeline. They highlighted that the initiative is not merely an infrastructure project, but a profound symbol of the Lepcha community’s heritage and identity.
In response, ITS assured the attendees that it will work in close coordination with all relevant departments to address the challenges and ensure the smooth and timely completion of this culturally significant project.
It was further decided that ITS, along with stakeholders, will undertake a site visit to Daramdin, West Sikkim on 27.08.2025 to review on-ground progress and strengthen the way forward.
