"REPORT ON TRAINING PROGRAMME ON NATIONAL PROGRAMME ON CLIMATE CHANGE & HUMAN HEALTH (NPCCHH)"
Date: 18th August 2025.
Venue: Meeting Hall, Soreng Community Health & Wellness Centre (CHC)
District: Soreng, West Sikkim.
In Coordination with: Block IEC Cell, Soreng CHC.
A one-day training programme on the National Programme on Climate Change & Human Health (NPCCHH) was successfully conducted on 18th August 2025 at the Meeting Hall of Soreng Community Health & Wellness Centre, Soreng District.
The training was organized for Panchayat Presidents, Vice-Presidents, PRI Members, and Panchayat Functionaries under Soreng CHC.
The session was chaired by Dr. Abhishek Subba, Medical Officer In-charge, Soreng CHC.
The training began with an introductory session on NPCCHH delivered by Mr. L.B. Tamang, Health Educator, Block IEC Cell, Soreng CHC.
This was followed by a detailed presentation by the resource person, Dr. Menuka Tamang, Additional Director (Dental Department), Soreng CHC.
Her session focused on:
"Definition of climate change and its impact on human health and the environment, particularly in poor and developing countries with limited access to healthcare."
Mention of renowned climate activists such as Greta Thunberg, Elon Musk, and the late Pope Francis.
Local climate change events including:
* GLOF Sikkim.
* Massive avalanche in Nathula.
Recent cloudbursts in Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir.
In-depth discussion on:
* Causes and effects of heatwaves.
* Zoonotic diseases.
Practical recommendations such as:
* Adoption of renewable energy sources.
* Kitchen waste management.
* Avoidance of single-use plastics.
* Promotion of sustainable fashion.
* Energy conservation practices (e.g. walking, cycling, using public transport)
* Forest and marine conservation.
* Organic farming and support for local products.
She also shared significant state-level initiatives:
* Dhara Vikas under MGNREGA.
* A Day for Mother Earth” campaign.
* Clean the Drain Before the Rain”
* Mero Rukh Mero Santati (State Level Initiative.)
Following this, Mr. Aviral Subba, (NEW) Health Educator, Block IEC Cell, presented on the IEC aspects of NPCCHH and its integration with public health messaging.
The session concluded with Mr. L.B. Tamang, Health Educator, providing an overview of preventive measures under NPCCHH, with emphasis on actionable steps at the community level.
At the end of the training, IEC posters and materials on NPCCHH were distributed among all participating GPUs/Blocks under Soreng CHC.
The training saw active participation from the following Aspirational Blocks and GPUs under Soreng District:
* Chakung⁩.
* Chumbung.
* Chota-Samdong.
* Mendogaon.
* Singling.
* Soreng.
Participants included:
Panchayat Presidents.
* Vice-Panchayat Presidents.
* PRI Members.
* Panchayat Functionaries.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, which facilitated meaningful discussion and clarified key aspects of NPCCHH.
The day-long training session on NPCCHH was informative, interactive, and well-received by all participants.
It significantly enhanced awareness on climate change and its implications on public health, while encouraging community-level action through Panchayati Raj Institutions.
