New Delhi, August 15: Two Van Dhan Vikash Kendra (VDVK) leaders from Sikkim, Mrs Binu Tamang, of Singling VDVK and Bidya Laxmi Tamang of Buriakhop VDVK Soreng District attended the 79th Independence Day Celebration at Lal Quila, New Delhi, today. They witnessed the National programme as Special Guests from Sikkim amongst a host of tribal artisans and VDVK members from other states and UTs.
They also got the opportunity to meet senior officers from Government of India, cultural exposure, exchange of experience with artisans from other states, and visit to Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya and such other monuments of National importance.
The representatives from these two Vandhan Kendra were nominated by the Cooperation Department, Government of Sikkim based on invitation received from the TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India .
This opportunity was offered by the Ministry under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikash Mission a project the Cooperation Department is implementing in all six districts of the State in which 80 VDVKs are already organised in association with MPCS located in respective 80 GPUs which receive financial support support from the scheme, to take up technology based value addition , branding and marketing activities, for local produce in the identified clusters.
It may be mentioned that with the progress of PMJVM project activities, the clusters of VDVK members have been often availing this type of exposure to national events and sale cum exhibition platforms. Such visits are crucial in deepening the faith of Vdvk members in adoption of technology and mordern marketing tips like branding etc for their traditional methods of making marketable products for higher economic gains.
The four day visit will conclude on 17th August 2025.
