District-Level Training Programme on Land Use Statistics (LUS) and Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES) under DGCES
Organized by the Agri Census Unit, Agriculture Department, Government of Sikkim
Namchi, 30 July:
Agriculture Department Namchi, Government of Sikkim, through its Agri Census Unit Gangtok, successfully organized a District-Level Training Programme on Land Use Statistics (LUS) and Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES) under DGCES at the Namchi Conference Hall today.
The training aimed to equip field-level officials with the knowledge and skills required for effective and accurate data collection in the upcoming survey phase. Participants included Agriculture Inspectors, Supervisors, Enumerators, DGCES Tehsil In-Charges, and Primary Workers from across the district.
Key resource persons for the programme included:
• Dr. Sangay Gyampo Bhutia, Assistant Director, Agri Census Unit
• Mr. Dewas Gurung, DGCES
• Miss. Nikam Tamang, ADO Namchi
The programme was inaugurated with a welcome address by Mr.Wangyal Lepcha, Deputy Director of Agriculture, who underlined the significance of reliable data for the implementation of agricultural schemes and resource allocation. He encouraged field staff to be diligent and technically sound in their approach to this vital work.
Ms. Nikam Tamang presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation on DGCES methodology, explaining how to fill various forms correctly. He emphasized common mistakes committed by primary workers and provided clear guidance to improve the quality and accuracy of field data.
Dr. Sangay Gyampo Bhutia, in his address, appreciated the efforts of the district teams and stated that Sikkim is performing exceptionally well in terms of reporting and data submission compared to other states of India. He acknowledged the commitment of the field staff and encouraged them to maintain the same momentum in future survey phases.
He also gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the corrections required under Agri Census Phase 3, highlighting key problem areas, reporting inconsistencies, and the necessary steps for improvement. His session provided valuable clarity to supervisors and enumerators.
Mr. Dewas Luitel played a key role in the interactive segment of the training by patiently addressing and clearing the doubts raised by primary workers, helping them gain better clarity on their responsibilities, digital tools, and field procedures under DGCES.
The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Meena Sharma, ADO Namthang, who expressed her gratitude to the resource persons, organizing team, and all participants for their enthusiastic involvement. She acknowledged the department’s consistent efforts toward capacity building and the transition to digital and transparent survey mechanisms.
The Agriculture Department reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing agricultural statistics and appreciated the dedication of the district teams in driving the success of DGCES and DGCES initiatives.
The Master of Ceremony (MC) for the event was Mr.Barun Rai, Agriculture Inspector, Sikip, who coordinated the programme smoothly and maintained the flow of the event with professionalism.
