19th Sub-Junior & 20th Junior Sikkim State Boxing Championship Kicks Off at Reshithang
Gangtok, July 26: The Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) inaugurated the 19th Sub-Junior and 20th Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Sikkim State Boxing Championship 2025 at the Reshithang Sports Complex, Gangtok today. The three-day championship is being held from 26th to 28th July, with participation from all districts across the state.
The opening ceremony was graced by Shri N.B. Dahal, Patron of SABA and Minister Roads and Bridges Department, Government of Sikkim, who attended as the Chief Guest. Smt. Kala Rai, MLA of Upper Burtuk Constituency, was present as the Guest of Honour and Area MLA Soreng constituency Aditya Golay, Dronacharya Awardee Sandya Gurung, Retired IG Police Department Cum Former SABA President and several other dignitaries, former boxing officials, and elected representatives were also present.

In his address, Jas Lal Pradhan emphasized the importance of this championship in identifying young boxing talent in the state. He commended the government for its support in sports infrastructure and athlete welfare.
Exciting Bouts on Day One-
The first day witnessed a series of competitive matches:
1 Sub-Junior Boys’ Quarterfinal
4 Junior Boys’ Quarterfinals
1 Junior Girls’ Quarterfinal
12 Sub-Junior Boys’ Semifinals
10 Junior Boys’ Semifinals
4 Junior Girls’ Semifinals
In the second session of the day, Shri Raju Basnet, Minister for Education, Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Sports, graced the event as the Chief Guest. SABA presented him with a Token of Love in recognition of his contributions to sports in the state.
Minister Basnet appreciated the dedication of the young athletes and district associations. He also highlighted the achievements of the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (Boxing) in Sikkim, calling it a facility of international standards. He further mentioned the government’s support for students through nutrition programs and a stipend of ₹300 per student, encouraging them to stay committed to sports.
With over 32 bouts held on the opening day, the championship promises more thrilling action over the next two days, as young boxers compete for glory and state titles
