“NSO(FOD) organizes Community Discussion and Plantation Drive part of at Rhenock”
Gangtok, July 24, 2025:
National Statistics Office (NSO), Field Operations Division (FOD), Ministry of Statistics and Program implementation (MoSPI), Govt. of India is celebrating 75th anniversary of NSS till October 2025. As a part of activities earmarked for the of July for celebrations of this 75th anniversary, National Statistics Office, FOD, Regional Office, Gangtok organized Community discussion at Rhenock Village Administrative Centre, District- Pakyong on 23rd July, 2025.
Mrs Nirmala Kalikotey, President, Mrs Menuka Pradhan, Vice- President and Panchayat members of Rhenock GPU attended the programme as Chief Guest and special guests.
Initiating the programme, Shri D R Sharma, Assistant Director, NSO, RO Gangtok welcomed the participants and provided brief overview of the activities of the Ministry and importance of surveys conducted by the NSO. Shri D R Sharma also highlighted the importance of various surveys conducted by NSS and how it is used in formulation of new government policies & programmes as well as in modification and upgradation of existing ones. He also urged the people and panchayat to extend cooperation to the NSS officials in conducting surveys in their area.
Mrs Tenzin Choden Senior Statistical Officer talked about large-scale sample surveys conducted by NSO viz. Periodic Labour Force Survey, ASUSE, ASI,Socio-economic Survey on health, Domestic tourism expenditure survey, National Household Travel Survey and collection of prices from different markets/industrial units for preparation of Price Indices etc.
Shri Tubai Dutta, Senior Statistical Officer spoke on organizational structure of the Ministry, role & functions of different divisions and importance of data collection. Participants were also enlightened about different categories of posts available in the organization, mode of recruitment and qualification required for recruitment in these posts, career progression etc.
All the Panchayat members and Shri Madhusudan Sharma AD, Rhenock GPU expressed their gratitude for organizing such programme in their Gram Panchayat and assured to extend cooperation to NSS officials whenever they visit for data collection.
In the afternoon session, a plantation drive was also held around the compound of Rhenock Village Administrative Centre same day. The officials of RO Gangtok, President, Vice-president and members of Panchayat and staff of VAC actively participated in the drive. Flowering and decorative plants were planted around Panchayat office compound during the drive.
The programme ended with offering of vote of thanks by Shri Yadu Nath Sharma, Survey Supervisor.
