Three-Day Orientation Programme on Collaborative Action Research
Gangtok, July 19, 2025: DIET Gangtok as Centre of Excellence organized the 5th batch of Orientation Programme on Collaborative Action Research on FL & N Areas w.e.f. 17th – 19th July 2025 for 140 Primary Teachers of Government and Private schools of Gangtok and Pakyong Districts.
The Orientation programme was organised to equip the teachers to be a reflective practitioner by solving classroom problems related to Foundational Literacy & Numeracy. NEP 2020 advocates teachers to adopt evidence-based pedagogy to make teaching learning process vibrant. The day-wise activities of the programme were as under:
DAY 1:
• Introductory remarks and overview of the programme were presented by Mr. Tshering Wangdi Bhutia, Principal. The Principal, in his address, shared the overview with the objectives of conducting the programme in the light of NEP 2020.
• The Inaugural event was graced by the presence of Dr. Rabin Chettri, Director, SCERT Education Department as the Chief Guest. The Director, in his address, applauded the Institute for conducting this type of Training Programme in which the teachers were self-nominated. He also spoke at length about NEP 2020 and how training programmes help teachers to achieve NPST. (National Professional Standards for Teachers). Ms. Rajeta Gurung, Lecturer was the MC and Ms. Yangzom Lachungpa, Lecturer proposed the Vote of Thanks in the Inaugural Session.
• Mr. Sonam Gyaccho Bhutia & Ms. Mingma Doma Lepcha, PRTs as well as teacher practitioners were invited as Resource Persons to share their action research works undertaken in 2024.
• Group activity on sharing of classroom experiences/ teaching-learning problems on Literacy and Numeracy was conducted by Dr Tenzing N Bhutia, Lecturer.
• The Technical session on Framing the Action Research Proposal was shared and facilitated by the Faculties of the institute.
DAY 2:
Group-wise Activity-cum-Presentation by the participants under the facilitation of the Faculties of DIET along with the Part-Time Local Language Faculty members was undertaken. Group-wise activities and presentations continued with constructive feedback from faculties and part-time local language faculty members.
DAY 3:
Group-wise Presentation on identification and statement of classroom problems and constructive feedback of the Action Research continued on Day 3.
In the Concluding Session, Dr. Tenzing Norzom Bhutia, Lecturer-cum-Coordinator charted the way forward to the participants and highlighted the significance of the use of innovative pedagogical practices in the intervention phase of Action Research to be undertaken by the participants. The Principal, in his address, motivated and encouraged teacher participants to be reflective educators by undertaking research, with the ultimate objective of making teaching effective and learning easier.
The teacher participants, in their feedback, shared that the programme has empowered the teachers, especially the private school teachers, to undertake the research work.
The Teacher Participants were handed over certificates of participation.
The overall coordinators of the programme were Ms. Aroona Pradhan, Sr. Lecturer and Dr. Tenzing Norzom Bhutia, Lecturer, DIET Gangtok.
