In a remarkable display of unity and environmental consciousness, the citizens of 25 Upper Tadong came together today to launch the initiative “Connect to Earth & Shramdaan for Green Sikkim.”
This grassroots movement, inspired by the vision of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) and undertaken under the able guidance of the local MLA and Hon’ble Minister for Health, Culture, and Welfare, Shri G.T. Dhungel, marks a significant milestone in promoting community-driven environmental action in Sikkim.
The program commenced on the morning of 16th July 2025, with enthusiastic participation from residents of all age groups—youth, elders, women, and children—joining hands in a shared commitment to protect and nurture Mother Earth through shramdaan (voluntary physical labour) and sustainable green practices.
From cleaning public areas, planting saplings, to spreading awareness on eco-friendly habits, the event reflected the growing sense of civic responsibility among citizens. Volunteers actively contributed to beautification drives, waste management, and the revival of neglected green spaces.
The involvement of local NGOs, community associations, and citizens from diverse walks of life further enriched the initiative, showcasing how environmental stewardship transcends boundaries of profession, age, and background.
The active support and presence of the Constituency Level Committee (CLC) executives of 25 Upper Tadong also played a crucial role in the successful execution of the program. Their coordination and commitment to grassroots development reinforced the spirit of participatory governance and collective action.
Speaking on the occasion, local representatives emphasized that this initiative is not a one-time activity but the beginning of a people’s movement—deeply rooted in values of service, harmony with nature, and collective progress. The program also highlighted the developmental vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, whose leadership continues to inspire inclusive and sustainable growth across the state.
The initiative will continue in phases, with similar activities planned across neighboring wards in the coming weeks, reinforcing the goal of a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Sikkim.
