The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sikkim, organized a meeting with State Steering Committee on Accessible Elections (SSCAE) on 16th July 2025.
The meeting was chaired by Shri Prabhakar, IAS Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim. The main goal of the meeting was to strengthen Electoral Accessibility for Persons with Disability (PWDs), Senior citizens and Transgenders.
The main objective of the meeting was preparation of training module for polling volunteers and BLOs on" Disability Etiquettes" and incorporating the training module and sensitizing Electoral
Literacy Club (ELs) members during their regular activities. The meeting also discussed strategies to involve left out and eligible PWDs elector in the E-roll with possible data sharing between Women,
Child, Senior Citizen& Divyangjan Welfare Department and Election Department.
Special Attention was given to inclusion of Transgenders and Senior Citizens for their enrollment in the Electoral Roll. The Committee resolved to conduct bi-monthly review meetings to assess feedback and progress on accessibility initiatives for Infrastructure measures being taken up in the State.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring universal electoral participation and accessibility in line with The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPwD) Act, 2016. Moving forward, a data- driven, inclusive, and barrier- free electoral process is a top priority.
