DG, ESIC sand Secretary Labour Meet to Discuss 100 Bedded ESIC Hospital and Other Issues
Gangtok, July 15, 2025:
An important meeting to discuss on various issues related to the Employees State Insurance Scheme was convened on July 15, 2025 at Shram Bhawan, which was attended by Shri Bhim Thatal, SCS, Secretary, Labour Department along with Shri Amrish Kumar Sharma, Regional Director, Dr. Hirendra Nath Gorain, Senior Medical Officer (ESIC), Shri Shiromani Neopaney, Additional Labour Commissioner-II and concerned Officers of ESIC as well as Labour Department.
The key agenda of the meeting was to discuss on the construction of 100 bedded ESIC Hospital at Mamring, South Sikkim for which the State Government has already allotted more than five (05) acres of land. The hospital will cater all kinds of medical benefit to the registered Insured Persons (IPs) of Sikkim once it is completed.
Secretary Labour Shri Bhim Thatal emphasised upon early start of fencing of the ESIC Hospital site and start of the construction of hospital. He also reiterated that a draft construction plan has to be produced before the Labour Department before finalising it. Since the land is situated in hilly terrain, all parameters and stipulated standards of construction must be met before commencement of any such mega project.
It was also informed that the constitution of the Sikkim State Employees’ Insurance Society and the Regional Board has already been completed and decided to convene its first meeting in the last week of August. This meeting will be held with the Hon’ble Ministers of Labour Department and Health & Family Welfare Department along with the Chief Secretary.
Extensive discussion on setting up of a Sub-Regional Office in the State itself for the interest of IPs, Hub and Spoke Model for Soreng and Gyalshing District though Jorethang Service Dispensary and for Mangan District through Tadong and Rangpo Service Dispensaries duly covering all six districts of the State was discussed and finalised.
Further, different queries raised by the Officers of Labour Department were clarified by the Regional Director and Sr. Medical Officer, ESIC and assured that all the support required by the State will be provided by Corporation as per norms.
