REPORT ON "ONE DAY AT SCHOOL PROGRAM"
Date: 14th July 2025
Venue: S.L. Dow Gyatso Kazi Government Senior Secondary School, Mangalbarey, Soreng District, Sikkim.
Organized by: Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AHVS), Soreng District.
As per schedule of: District Administrative Centre (DAC), Soreng
The ‘One Day at School Program’ was successfully conducted at S.L. Dow Gyatso Kazi Government Senior Secondary School, Mangalbarey, with the participation of students from Class IX to XII (approximately 100 students), faculty members, and officers from the AHVS Department, Soreng District.
The program commenced with the welcome speech and briefing by Dr. Kunzang P. Bhutia, Joint Director, AHVS, who outlined the objectives of the initiative and elaborated on various government schemes under the AHVS Department. She also shared insights into the scope and future prospects in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, motivating the students to consider this field as a potential career option.
Following this, a series of informative presentations were delivered by departmental officers:
1. Presentation on ‘Rabies and Veterinary Jurisprudence’
- By Dr. Roshan Pirthawar, Deputy Director, Mangalbarey AHVS deptt. Soreng district.
- The session focused on awareness about rabies, preventive measures, legal aspects of veterinary practice, and animal rights laws.
2. Presentation on ‘Scope and Opportunities in Dairy Industry’
- By Mrs. Ambika Adhikari, Assistant Dairy Development Officer, AHVS Department, Soreng.
- The talk emphasized entrepreneurial opportunities, government support, and the economic potential of dairy farming in rural development.
3. Presentation on ‘Toxoplasmosis and its Zoonotic Importance’
- By Dr. Sharin Gurung, Veterinary Officer, DVH Soreng
- This session educated students on the public health implications of zoonotic diseases, particularly toxoplasmosis, and preventive strategies.
The interactive part of the program included a short quiz competition where students enthusiastically participated. Small tokens of appreciation were awarded to those who answered correctly, adding an element of fun and engagement to the learning environment.
The Vice Principal and Incharge of the school, Mr. Sonam Dong, delivered a vote of appreciation, highlighting the importance of such out-of-the-box initiatives that bridge academic learning with practical exposure and life skills development.
The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Roshan Pirthawar, acknowledging the school authorities, DAC Soreng, and all participants for making the event a success.
The event was coordinated smoothly under the able compering of Mrs. Ambika Adhikari, who served as the Master of Ceremony.
