State Level Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2025 Celebrated at Gangtok - Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang honoured Green Champions with Awards and called for Dedication of People & Stakeholders to Protect Environment.
Sikkim Paryavaran Parva is an Unique and noble green initiative conceived by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang and is being celebrated since 2023. The 3rd Sikkim Paryavaran Parva is being observed with the theme for 2025 is "Leave a Green Legacy" from 1st Jul to 14 Jul throughout the state. The event was launched on 1st Jul 25 by Hon’ble MLA Shri. Aditya Golay at Maitreya Manjri Park at Ridge Park, Gangtok by flagging off of “greenathon”. Sikkim Paryavaran Parva witnessed various events and activities such as celebration of A Day for Mother Earth on July 7, Stoppage of Traffic of all vehicles in the Sikkim for 7 minutes to raise environmental awareness and to do a bit in controlling carbon emission, Plantation in the name of Mother “Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam”, #Plant4Mother Plantation for Mero Rukh Mero Santati program by planting 108 trees for every new born child, launch of ‘Sikkim Shishu Samridhi Yojana', honouring of Champions of Mero Bato Mero Bot, etc.,
The Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2025 edition witnessed a wide range of green activities across the State. In addition to the key activities mentioned above, this year actions also include a Green walk from prominent locations in Gangtok to Forest Secretariat lead by Shri Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Hon’ble Minister, Forest and Environment, Shri Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, Hon’ble Advisor, Forest Department, PCCF-cum-Principal Secretary, Senior officers of the Forest Department was held on 11 Jul 2025. A Green Quiz, a televised quiz for students of Govt. Sr. Secondary schools received overwhelming participation from students throughout the state. The parva also witnessed workshops on conserving endangered species and water conservation, Promoting zero waste and sustainable lifestyles through Cleanup Drives, Quiz, essay, poem green reels competition on Environmental themes, Engaging the community in green initiatives through Paryavaran Rallies & Green Walks., creation of plant nurseries in the schools, skits, pledge and signature campaign and mass propagation on lifestyle for environment, competitions at school level, and other sensitization drives on forestry, environment and wildlife consciousness across the state.
This fortnightly environment festival is based on the State Government’s firm commitment to contribute towards preserving our planet and fostering a sustainable future. The Sikkim Paryavaran Parva strives to create a greener and more sustainable future by engaging individuals, communities, and organizations, to foster a collective sense of responsibility towards our environment and inspire positive change.
To culminate the 2025 edition of Sikkim Paryavaran Parva on a Successful Celebration Mode, the Forest and Environment Department has organised a state level event on 14th of July 2025 at Manan Kendra, Gangtok. Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang attended as Chief Guest in state level Sikkim Paryavaran Parva organised by the Forest and Environment Department. The program was attended by Hon’ble Minister, Forest and Environment Shri Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Cabinet Ministers, Advisors, MPs, MLAs, Adhyakshas, Up Adhyakshas, Chief Secretary, Head of Departments, Secretaries, other Public Representatives including panchayats, District Collectors, Superintendent of Police, ASHA workers, JFMCs, EDCs, BMCs, Watershed beneficiaries, Road Workers, parents, Award winners of the school, school students., etc.,
In his Welcome Address, PCCF-cum-Principal Secretary, Forest and Environment Department Dr. Pradeep Kumar briefly elaborated on the activities of the Department, the significance and activities taken up under of Sikkim Paryavaran Parva and new initiatives done in citizen centric green Governance., etc., He also briefed that the parva witnessed various events including screening of audio visuals on Sikkim Paryavaran, Participation in Zoo Animal Adoption ("My Child from Wild"), plantations under Mero Rukh Mero Santhathi and Mero Bato Mero Bot, Environmental awareness Skits, etc., at state level and at District levels during the Parva 2025.
Hon’ble Minister, Forest and Environment Shri Pinsto Namgyal Lepcha emphasised the significance of environment in the state and applauded the performance of the department and requested the officials to take up the Government programs seriously and deliver to the people in time.
Hon’ble Chief Minister handed over Green Fixed Deposits of Rs. 10,800/- each to New born Child from ‘Sikkim Shishu Samridhi Yojana” under Mero Rukh Mero Santhathi to the children from all Districts, allotment shops for SHG members, Awards for best performing Road Gang with Rs. 50,000/- to each road care taker under Mero Bato Mero Bot, Green Schools Award, Best ASHA Award under Mero Rukh Mero Santati Program. Further, Various Citizen Centric Green Governance such as online Forest Check Posts was launched in the program. In his Address, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang appreciated the performance of the Forest and Environment Department and stressed upon the importance of participation of People and stake holders of Sikkim in all Forest and Environment conservation programs of the state.
The program ended with the vote of Thanks by Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Addl Principal Chief Conservator of Forests of the Forest and Environment Department.
