2.5 km Swimathon Highlights Endurance and Resilience
Gangtok, July 14:
The Sikkim Amateur Swimming Association (SASA) successfully organized a 2.5 km Swimathon on July 13, 2025 showcasing the spirit, endurance, and resilience of young swimmers from across the state. A total of 37 swimmers participated across various age categories — Under-12, Under-15, Under-17, and Open.
All participants completed the challenging distance, demonstrating remarkable stamina and sportsmanship. The event served as a platform to encourage long-distance swimming among the youth and prepare them for higher-level competitions.
SASA President, Shri Kuber Bhandari, commended the efforts of all the swimmers and expressed pride in the growing interest and talent in aquatic sports within the state. He also informed that State Swimming Championships will be on 23-24 August 2025 to further identify and nurture budding talents.
The event also observed a moment of silence and offered heartfelt condolences on the passing of Padma Shri Sanu Lama, a literary stalwart whose contributions remain etched in Sikkim's cultural fabric.
Medals and certificates were awarded to all finishers, presented by the President and General Secretary of SASA, acknowledging the dedication and enthusiasm of each swimmer.
