Gangtok, July 11:
A three months long nationwide campaign to saturate Social Security Schemes under the Financial Inclusion (FI) Plan at the Gram Panchayat (GP) level is under way in Sikkim under the aegis of the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) Sikkim. Under this campaign, 21 Gram Panchayat Units across the 6 districts have been covered till date.
The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has launched a nationwide campaign was launched on July 1, 2025 and simultaneously it was launched in Sikkim as well.
The three-month campaign, running from July 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025, aims to cover all 153 Gram Panchayats (GPUs) in Sikkim to promote financial inclusion and social security among the citizens of the State.
During this period, the campaign will focus on several key activities, including:
Re-KYC of all saving bank account holders (wherever due) to ensure updated and accurate customer information.
Opening of bank accounts for unbanked adults under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) to promote financial inclusion.
The initiative focuses on expanding the reach of flagship schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) to provide social security cover to the citizens.
Public awareness is another critical focus of the campaign with sessions being held to educate general public about digital fraud prevention, how to access available deposits, and the available grievance redressal devices.
"As of today, 21 Gram Panchayat Units across the 6 districts have been covered, and the remaining will be covered during the campaign period. The campaign is expected to benefit thousands of citizens in Sikkim, promoting financial inclusion and social security in the state" said SLBC official.
The launch event on July 1, 2025 was attended by elected representatives, state government officials, AGM-SLBC bankers, and beneficiaries.
