Green Walk for a Greener Tomorrow 2025
As part of the Paryavaran Parva 2025 celebrations, the Forest and Environment Department, Government of Sikkim, successfully organized the third edition of its flagship initiative—Green Walk—reaffirming its commitment to environmental awareness and sustainable living.
Launched in 2023 under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, the Green Walk has grown into a people’s movement that reflects Sikkim’s pioneering green governance.
This year, the walk was held simultaneously in all six districts, including Gangtok where it began from NB Bhandari Degree College Gate, Titanic Park, and Syari Taxi Stand, culminating at the Forest Secretariat under the theme “Leave a Green Legacy.”
More than just a walk, it was a zero-waste, plastic-free initiative involving officers, staff, and the public, spreading the message of unity, climate consciousness, and healthy living.
Key Impacts:
• Widespread Participation: Forest officials, citizens, and other departments walked together for a common cause.
• Reduced Carbon Footprint: By choosing to walk instead of using vehicles, participants demonstrated how everyday choices can help mitigate carbon emissions.
• Health Promotion: Encouraged active living and environmental responsibility.
• Community Engagement: Fostered conversations on sustainability across towns and villages.
• Fuel Conservation: In Gangtok alone, the event saved over 500 litres of fossil fuel in just one day—underscoring the real-world impact of simple actions.
As Minister for Forest and Environment, I thank all participants, staff, and supporting departments. Let us remember—Green Walk 2025 is not just an event. It is a movement. A reminder that each step we take today is a pledge to build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Sikkim for generations to come.
Let’s keep walking—for our planet, our people, and a Greener Tomorrow.
Jai Hind. Jai Sikkim.
