Celebration of 9th Crop Insurance Week in Soreng District
Soreng, 7 July:
Agriculture Department, Soreng District celebrated the 9th Crop Insurance Week, 2025 under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) from the 1st of July till the 7th. The week long awareness programme commenced on the 1st and travelled through all 6 blocks of Soreng by the 7th, concluding in Kaluk block of the district, today.
The awareness programme at Kaluk commenced in the presence of Panchayat President Mr Krishna Prasad Sharma, Vice President Mrs Rupal Rai, Members Mrs Maya Devi Gurung, Mrs Devika Rai, Mrs Sonam Diki Lepcha, Mr Hashal Dorjee Bhutia, ADO Ms Amimsha Limboo, FA Mr Shekhar Gurung, Mr M.B Gurung, Mr P.B. Gurung, Mr L.B Gurung, BTM Phurcho Lepcha, ATM Soshna Subba, CSC Mr Prakash Subba,Coordinator Mr. Michael Rai and other staff members from Agriculture and Horticulture Department with the farmers in attendance as the main beneficiaries of the awareness programme. The week long programme was successfully coordinated under the aegis of Deputy Director Agriculture, Mr Manish Pradhan.
Mr Phurcho Lepcha welcomed everyone with a brief introduction to the objective of PMFBY. The programme proceeded with a comprehensive review of the scheme and its components by Ms Amimsha Limboo. The briefing included the importance of crop insurance for financial protection against crop failure, the crops covered by insurance, the conditions in place and the particulars of registration and claim. Furthermore, CSC Mr Prakash Subba gave a detailed description of the premium rates for each crop, the terms and conditions mandated by the insurance company, documents required for registration, the claim procedure and other particulars of concern.
An interactive session was also held with queries from the farmers regarding PMFBY being addressed promptly and farmers expressing interest in insurance for ginger and potato cultivation.
The concluding address from Panchayat President Mr Krishna Prasad Sharma highlighted the importance of crop insurance in tackling widespread incidence of pest and diseases as well as natural calamities. He encouraged the people to take up agriculture as a subject of interest for the prosperity of the locality. The day’s programme successfully concluded with the vote of thanks from MA Mr. Sandesh Sharma.
