Six-day summer futsal tournament concludes at Darap, Gyalshing district.
Gyalshing, July 6 :
Six-day-long 1st Summer Futsal tournament being held at Damber Singh Limboo Memorial Government Senior Secondary School Darap, playground, Gyalshing district, concluded today with the final match that drew large public participation and enthusiasm.
The tournament was organised by Darap Football Academy (DFA) young boys, a local youth organisation, with support from the Minister and area MLA of Yangthang constituency, Mr Bhim Hang Limboo.
The tournament, which commenced on July 1, aimed to engage youth in positive pursuits through sports and cultural activities.
Former Chairman Mr Basant Tamang attended the event as the Chief Guest. Also present were Additional Superintendent of Police (Gyalshing) Mr Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, Assistant General Manager-cum-District Coordinating Officer (SBS) Mr Ajit Gurung, Government contractor Mr Gyalpo Lepcha, Principal In-charge (Khechuperi Sr Sec School) Mr LM Limboo, and Marathon Man of Sikkim Mr Amar Subba. The event also saw the presence of gram panchayat members from various GPUs under Yangthang constituency, local dignitaries and the general public.
The tournament aimed to promote sportsmanship, healthy living, and to steer the youth away from online gaming, substance abuse, and anti-social activities. It served as a platform to engage young people in constructive and physical activities amid rising concerns about excessive mobile and online game addiction.
The final match saw an exciting face-off between Brotherhood FC Sardung and Kyongsa Power FC, with Brotherhood FC Sardung clinching the title in a thrilling 4–3 victory. Both the winner and runner-up teams receive attractive trophies and cash prizes.
Chief Guest Mr Basant Tamang, in his address, lauded the organisers for successfully hosting a meaningful sporting event that promotes a drug-free and active lifestyle. He emphasised the importance of such initiatives in building a positive community and keeping the youth engaged in productive endeavours.
To honour their contribution, the chief guest and other dignitaries were presented with letters of appreciation and mementos by the organising committee.
The event concluded on a high note with cultural performances by school students and local troupes, adding a vibrant cultural touch to the sports celebration.
The organising committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to all individuals, organisations, and stakeholders, especially area MLA and Minister Mr Bhim Hang Limboo, for the guidance and support in making the tournament a grand success.
