The Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. Celebrates International Cooperation Week
Gangtok, July 06, 2025:
The Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. observed the International Cooperation Week from 1st to 6th July 2025, aligning with the directives of the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India.
The celebration was part of the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025, and this year’s International Cooperative Day, observed on 5th July (the first Saturday of July),carried the global theme : “Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World.”
Additionally, 6th July 2025 marks the 4th Foundation Day of the Ministry of Cooperation.
A series of impactful activities marked the week-long celebration:
• 1st July 2025: The 5th edition of Gwala Diwas was celebrated at Manan Kendra, Gangtok in a grand manner. The event was graced by Shri Puran Gurung, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Horticulture, and Fisheries as Chief Guest. Dignitaries present included the Deputy Speaker, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Advisors, senior bureaucrats, the first and second Managing Directors of Sikkim Milk Union, Deputy Mayor, and hundreds of dairy farmers from across Sikkim.
• 3rd July 2025: Mass cleanliness drives were conducted by officials and staff of the Sikkim Milk Union at its Head Office in Gangtok and Regional Office at Jorethang, promoting hygiene and environmental consciousness.
• 4th July 2025: A milk awareness and distribution campaign was organized at Swarnim Women Welfare Organization, Gangtok, and ICDS Centre, 6th Mile Tadong Hawa Ghar, where milk and milk products were distributed. Parents and students were sensitized about the nutritional benefits of milk, promoting healthier dietary habits.
• 5th July 2025: The week culminated with a mass plantation drive under the slogans “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and “Mero Rukh Mero Santati.” The plantation took place at both Gangtok and Jorethang campuses of the Milk Union, in collaboration with the Forest and Environment Department, Government of Sikkim. Over 100 tree saplings and hundreds of flowering plants were planted to mark the occasion.
The Managing Director, Chief General Manager, and the officials from various sections of Sikkim Milk Union actively participated in the plantation drive with great enthusiasm, reinforcing the Union’s commitment to sustainability and cooperative values.
