Bermiok Berthang conducts Training-cum-Distribution Programme on Micro Irrigation Sets (Drip & Sprinkler)

A training-cum-distribution programme on Micro Irrigation Systems (Drip and Sprinkler Irrigation) under PMKSY Phase-III was successfully conducted today at Bermiok Berthang Cluster by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Sikkim.
The programme was graced by Chairman Sikkim Milk Union Mr Yam Kumar Sharma, as the Chief Guest and Panchayat President, Bermiok Berthang GPU Mr Ganesh Sharma, as the Special Guest.
The event also saw the presence of Zilla Member Bermiok Territorial Constituency Mr Khusendra Gurung, Additional Director Agriculture (Gyalshing)Mr Karma Sherpa, along with Panchayat members, CLC President of Gyalshing-Bermiok, and other departmental officials.
A total of 110 beneficiaries received Micro Irrigation Sets, while 8 additional farmers were selected for support under Other Interventions.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Block Technology Manager, Hee Martam Block,Mr Bivek Sharma.
In his keynote address, Chief Guest Mr Yam Kumar Sharma appreciated the continuous efforts of the Government in promoting sustainable livelihoods through Agriculture, Horticulture, and Animal Husbandry. He emphasised that PMKSY is an effective tool to improve water use efficiency and increase productivity. He urged the farmers to align themselves with the "Connect to Earth" programme, a state initiative led by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, aimed at rejuvenating barren lands and reviving rural agriculture.
He further encouraged the youth to adopt technical farming, make use of e-marketing platforms, and engage in value-added crop production to ensure economic sustainability and food security. He also stressed the need for coordination between the farming community, Panchayats, and the department to maximize the impact of government schemes.
Additional Director Mr Sherpa, in his address, informed the gathering about the various schemes under the Agriculture Department, including Micro Irrigation, Other Interventions, and the eligibility criteria for farmers. He further highlighted the benefits of other PM flagship schemes such as PMFBY (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana) and PM-KISAN.
Deputy Director Agriculture Gyalshing Mr Suraj Chettri gave a detailed briefing on the PMKSY scheme, its objectives, and achievements under the previous phases. He also submitted the annual progress report to the Additional Director.
The event concluded with distribution of irrigation sets and a vote of thanks to all dignitaries, guests, and participating farmers.
