A meeting to discuss the formation of a District Level Committee for the effective planning and execution of the 9th Crop Insurance Week, to be observed from July 1 to 7, 2025, was held on June 30, 2025 under the chairmanship of Mr Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia, Additional District Collector (HQ), Gangtok District. The campaign aims to promote the Khari campaign under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
Ms Susmita Lama Tamang, Deputy Director-cum-Deputy PD ATMA Gangtok, delivered a detailed presentation on the objectives and significance of the PMFBY. She highlighted that the week-long campaign will generate awareness among farmers and stakeholders about the benefits of crop insurance and facilitate enrollment under the scheme.
Mr Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia underscored that the initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring maximum farmer participation, thereby safeguarding their livelihoods and strengthening resilience against crop losses due to natural calamities. He also stressed the importance of stakeholder coordination and the critical role of Common Service Centres (CSC) in the implementation of the scheme, directing officials to ensure these centres are accessible and farmer-friendly.
The meeting was attended by Mr B.P. Subba, Additional Registrar, Mr Amitabha Nandi, State Coordinator, CSC, representatives from Future Generali (insurance company), Mrs Hissey Bhutia, Deputy Director, Khamdong, Mr Bharat Sharma, Deputy Director, Ranka, Mrs Bindhu Dhamala, ADO Martam, officials from the Agriculture Department, ATMA Gangtok District, and representatives from Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Mr Bharat Sharma, Deputy Director, Ranka.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Mrs Bindhu Dhamala, ADO Martam.
