High-Quality Disease-Free Large Cardamom Seedlings Distributed to Farmers Under MIDH Programme
Gyalshing,June 28:
On 27th June 2025, a significant step was taken towards strengthening sustainable agriculture in Gyalshing District with the distribution of high-quality, disease-free large cardamom seedlings. The initiative was undertaken under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) programme under Horticulture Department Govt of Sikkim in convergence with MGNREGA and the Rural Management and Development Department (RMDD).
The programme was conducted for the benefit of farmers from Singyang Chumbong and Yangtey GPU. Along with the distribution of seedlings, hands-on training sessions were provided to ensure that farmers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective plantation and long-term maintenance of the crop.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Panchayat President, Additional Director Horticulture Shri Karma Sherpa, Block Development Officer Shri Garap Bhutia, and Deputy Director Miss Penzomla Bhutia. Field officials from both RMDD and the Horticulture Department were also present and extended their support during the programme.
This initiative marks an important convergence effort between departments to promote organic and sustainable farming practices, improve crop quality, and enhance the livelihoods of local farmers. The farmers expressed gratitude for the support, and the officials reiterated their commitment to continuing such collaborative efforts for the overall development of the farming community in the region.
