Millet Cultivation Continues Under Barren Land Revival Mission in Pakyong.
Pakyong, June 28:
The Additional District Collector’s Office, Pakyong District, has continued its initiative under the Mission Revival of Barren/Fallow Land for Cultivation. The effort, conducted at the Connect Earth-Sweat Contribution Center, has reached Episode 42, focusing on millet cultivation.
Millet is used in this mission for its ability to grow in dry conditions and during environmental stress. The crop can be cultivated with limited effort and no special techniques, which makes it suitable for large areas of unused land. Its inclusion has supported the main objective of the mission, which is to bring unused land under cultivation.
Gram Panchayat Units, working with the Connect Earth-Sweat Contribution Center, are preparing around 500 kilograms of millet seedlings. Seedling bookings have started, and the first phase is expected to begin in the first week of July.
All youths, workers, Self-Help Groups, non-government organizations, farmers, and other participants are invited to book seedlings early. The initiative promotes land use and supports local food systems.
The Additional District Collector’s Office has expressed thanks to MGNREGA officials, members of Namcheybong Gram Panchayat Unit, and Assistant Directors Suresh Kumar Rai and Sanju Pradhan, along with their teams, for their continued support.
