A nine-member team of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)- Gangtok, Sikkim, led by the Head of Regional Centre, Dr. Ashok Kumar, called on the Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
During the meeting, the ICAR team held extensive discussions with the Hon'ble Governor on the agricultural, research and development activities carried out by ICAR in the State.
The Hon’ble Governor suggested that various steps the institute should take to boost production and productivity in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, poultry farming and all related activities.
They also deliberated on the challenges faced by farmers and strategies for improving the marketing management of the state's organic products.
The Hon’ble Governor also stressed that Sikkim has significant potential for organic products, including large cardamom, turmeric and urged the ICAR experts to work closely with farmers to address their challenges and needs through innovative solutions and coordinated efforts. He encouraged the ICAR officials to devise a proper plan and research to further development through the ICAR to maximise the state’s potential for organic farming.
The ICAR team comprised scientists, researchers and officers.
