SURPRISE ENFORCEMENT RAID CONDUCTED AT TEMI BAZAR
Namchi, 26 June:
The District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), District Hospital Namchi, in coordination with Temi Primary Health Centre and Temi Police Station, conducted a surprise enforcement raid at Temi Bazaar on 26th June 2025.
Objective of the Enforcement:
The enforcement aimed to create awareness and to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003 — particularly the prohibition of smoking in public places, sale of tobacco products to and by minors, and sale of tobacco products near educational institutions.
Actions Taken
1. Inspections Conducted:
Shops and restaurants within the market area were inspected
2. Awareness:
Shopkeepers, restaurant owners, and the public were sensitised about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and tobacco control laws.
3. Promotion of Compliance:
Emphasis was laid on the importance of adhering to tobacco control laws.
4. Display of Signage:
Restaurant owners were instructed to prominently display “No Smoking” signage and ensure compliance with tobacco control laws.
5. Challans were issued to violators for non-compliance.
