Training Session on Plastic Waste Assessment and Characterisation Held at Ranka
Gangtok, 25 June 2025:
A training session on the Assessment and Characterisation of Plastic Waste Management was successfully conducted at Ranka Upper Lingdum (PWMU), today, under the supervision of District Planning Officer (DPO), Mr Sonam Gyatso Bhutia, Zilla Panchayat, Gangtok.
The session was carried out through the concerted efforts of the DPO, Gangtok, in coordination with officials from the ADC (Development). The objective of the training was to build local capacity for the segregation, identification, and characterisation of plastic waste, and to explore measures for improving plastic waste management systems in the district.
The resource persons for the session included:
* Rakash Bista, State IMIS Expert, Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), Rural Development Department (RDD)
* Pravash Chettri, Junior Engineer, State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Sikkim
* Reshap Sharma, Field Assistant, SPCB, Sikkim
The discussions aimed to enhance technical understanding and hands-on capacity for better implementation of solid and plastic waste management strategies at the grassroots level.
The program was attended by the Deputy Director, ADC (Dev), the Under Secretary, GDZP, officials from ADC (Dev), and Ranka BAC.
