MLA Maneybung Dentam Inaugurates Cultural and Food Fest in Yuksam-Tashiding

A grand cultural and food festival commenced at school playground of Government Senior secondary school, Tashiding, Gyalshing district as part of the ongoing celebration of the 50th year of Sikkim’s statehood celebration. The event is being organised by Focus Unlimited, a local NGO based in Tashiding, with support from the Department of Commerce & Industries, Government of Sikkim.
The festival was formally inaugurated today by the MLA of Maneybong-Dentam constituency and Advisor to the Department of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim Mr Sudesh Kumar Subba, who attended the inaugural event as the Chief guest.
Also present on the occasion were former Deputy Speaker (SLA) Mr Sangay Lepcha, SDM Yuksam Mr Chandan Singh Limboo, BDO Chongrang Ms Geeta Kumari Gurung, CLC President Mr Nandu Gurung, Zilla Panchayat Member Mr Birendra Gurung, Event Coordinator Mr Mohan Thatal, along with Zilla and Gram Panchayat members, officials from various departments under Yuksam Subdivision, local NGOs, SHG members, and students and teachers from various schools.
The festival features two main segments, Voice of Yuksam-Tashiding, a constituency-level singing competition, and a food festival showcasing ethnic cuisines and local delicacies prepared by various communities, SHGs, rural women, and students.
The opening day saw the knockout round of the singing competition, with 14 contestants selected through a recent live audition. Organisers informed that the winners of the knockout round will proceed to the battle round, followed by the finals.
In his brief inaugural address,Mr Subba, expressed that such initiatives provide an important platform to nurture local talents and prepare them for bigger opportunities in the future. He officially declared the event open and conveyed his best wishes to the contestants, participants, and the organising committee for a grand success of the event.
He further stated that under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, Sikkim is witnessing rapid development across all sectors. He encouraged people to actively contribute to the state's progress in every sphere.
Mr Subba also appreciated the efforts of local NGOs and SHGs for setting up food stalls that reflect the rich culinary diversity of the state. He emphasized the role of such events in promoting self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and women empowerment through government-supported schemes and initiatives.
The Chief Guest also visited various food stalls set up by SHGs, community members, and students, interacting with participants and encouraging their efforts.
