Distribution‑cum‑Training on Scientific Sikkim Mandarin Cultivation in Yangang
Namchi, June 24, 2025 –
Namchi District Horticulture Department is excited to begin a distribution‑cum‑training programme on scientific cultivation of Sikkim mandarin for over 100 progressive farmers in clustered sessions across Yangang.
Sikkim mandarin is the state’s most valuable commercial fruit crop, thriving in the subtropical valleys of the Tista river and its tributaries in Namchi. These hills provide the perfect agro‑climatic conditions to cultivate healthy, high‑quality citrus .
This initiative marks a key step in boosting productivity to meet growing domestic and international demand for organic Sikkim mandarin. Farmers received quality planting material, hands‑on training in orchard management, cultivation and pest and disease control, tailored with local conditions .
We’re implementing a cluster development approach, helping farmers form groups to access better market, supporting Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). These measures, along with improved planting material and farm‑level support, are being recognized as the most effective way to revive and expand mandarins across Sikkim .
“Our goal is to empower our farmers through knowledge and support so they can produce more, earn more, and meet rising market demand” as said additional director cum incharge horticulture namchi district.
