On 23rd June 2025 a Plastic Waste Assessment and Characterization of Soreng District was conducted by Soreng District Zilla Panchayat Office. The program was attended by Mr Kumar Subba, DPO Zilla, Hon'ble Panchayat President, Mr Dawgey Lepcha, Sangadorjee GPU, Hon'ble Ward Panchayat Ms Gayatri Rai, Chumbung GPU, SBM Block Coordinators , Panchayat Inspectors, VGRAs, Office Supervisors and all associated persons of Plastic Waste Management under Soreng District. The Assessment was conducted under the Technical Resource Person of State Level Plastic Waste Management & SBM Coordinator , RDD Headquarter, Gangtok Mr Kapil Chettri. At the outset, Mr Kapil Chettri ,Technical Resource person cum SBM Coordinator , RDD Headquarter, Gangtok was given a warm welcome by offering khadas.
Today's Resource persons gave training to all the participants and also shared various information relating to the assessment of Plastic. The Assessment will go on for five days with the seven different samples collected from six blocks of Soreng District. The Central Pollution Control Board mandates the standard operating procedure which was followed during the first day of assessment and will be followed in all assessment days. In this connection, all the SBM block coordinators of all BACs under Soreng District have been given the responsibility of assessment of their respective blocks and they required to submit the Report to Soreng District Zilla Panchayat office. At the end, Mr Kumar Subba , DPO Zilla proposed a vote of thanks to all. He also express his gratitude to the Hon'ble Zilla Panchayat Adhakshya Smt Tila Devi Gurung & Sachiva Cum DC, Mr Dhiraj Subedi for their Guidance. He also thanked all BDOs of Soreng District for their cooperation & Support.
