The Vending Cart infrastructure a provision under Horticulture Department Govt. Of Sikkim.
Namchi, 23 June:
A small programme was commenced by horticulture department under Namchi District at Ravangla subdivision in the presence of Honourable Area MLA Shri Riksel Dorjee Bhutia, department representative DDH Ravangla, HDO, VlW and representatives from various other departments SDM Ravangla, SDPO, SHO, BDO, AD UDD, Panchayat president, ward panchayats, officially inaugurated six vending carts provided by the horticulture department under Namchi district at Ravangla bazar on 22nd June 2025
The vending cart infrastructure provided by horticulture department is an initiative to improve the marketing structure for horticulture produce which comes under marketing infrastructure program and is a part of the scheme i.e. mission for integrated development of horticulture(MIDH).
This program aims to help address marketing problems and improve livelihoods for vendors and farmers by focusing on holistic development of overall horticulture sector.
This programme was initially providing infrastructure to the roadside vendors but due to its increasing demand by the farmers who sell their produce in haat bazaars, the department has now started providing this infrastructures to them as well and as directed by the horticulture department we are going all in for cluster development approach and focusing on forming a systemic organic stall sectors in haat bazars.
This approach by the department will not only support and encourage the small scale farmers but also remove the middleman in the market to whom the small scale farmers used to sell their produce at lower rates due to unavailability of proper selling counters, which inturn will help increase the income of our farmers and their overall livelihood.
