Celebration of International Olympic Day 2025,
Organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Soreng District, Sikkim
Theme: "Move, Learn, Discover Together for a Better World"
The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (SYAD), Soreng District, Sikkim, successfully celebrated International Olympic Day 2025 with great enthusiasm, participation, and community spirit. The event was organized in alignment with this year’s global theme: "Move, Learn, Discover Together for a Better World", which emphasizes the Olympic ideals of unity, education, and healthy living through sports.
Inaugural Ceremony
The celebration began with the traditional offering of Khadas (scarves) to the Chief Guest and dignitaries by Ms. Laku Phuti Bhutia, Office Attd.,SYAD Soreng, as a symbol of respect and warm welcome.
This was followed by a welcome address by Ms. Mamita Gurung, Deputy Director & Head of Office, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Soreng District. She highlighted the core values of the Olympic Games—Excellence, Friendship, and Respect—and their role in fostering a vibrant and inclusive sports culture across all age groups.
Address by the Chief Guest
Dr. Tashi Ongmu Bhutia, Assistant Professor of Physical Education at B.Ed. College, Soreng, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In her inspiring speech, she discussed the rich history and global impact of the Olympic movement. Dr. Bhutia emphasized how the Olympic Games contribute to peace, unity, and international cooperation and encouraged the youth of Soreng District to actively engage in sports and physical fitness for a healthier, more fulfilling life.
