Gangtok District under the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs successfully organised a Pre-Yoga Day event with the Theme: Yoga for “One Earth One Health” at the Reshithang Sports Complex, Khelgaon today as a lead-up to the International Day of Yoga. The programme aimed to spread awareness about the importance of yoga for physical fitness and mental well-being.
The session was attended by the Additional Director, Hon’ble Panchayats under Ranka GPU, officers from the Department, State NSS Cell, officers from KISCE (Khelo India State Centre of Excellence), coaches and staff of the department.
Department’s yoga instructor, Mr. Suraj Sapkota, conducted the session, guiding participants through various yoga asanas and breathing exercises. He emphasised the significance of regular yoga practice in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The event concluded on a positive note with words of encouragement from the dignitaries, who appreciated the initiative and urged everyone to continue embracing yoga in their daily lives.
Following the yoga session, a massive cleanliness and plantation drive was carried out within the complex premises. Participants actively took part in cleaning the surroundings and planting saplings, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility and sustainability.
