The Social Welfare Department (Soreng) in collaboration with the Health Department (CHC, Soreng) successfully conducted an IEC (Information, Education and Communication) campaign under the banner of “Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan” on 16 June 2025 at 14-Chakung Gram Panchayat Kendra (GPU), Chumbung-Chakung Block, Soreng District.
The programme was graced by the Panchayat President (14-Chakung GPU) Ms Karuna Darnal, who attended as the Chief Guest. She was accompanied by Panchayat Members, Senior Welfare Officer Ms Prativa Tamang, BDO Chumbung-Chakung Block Mr Ram Kumar Gurung, officials and representatives from the Health Department, DESME, CHC Soreng, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, Welfare Inspectors (Women & Child Development Department), senior citizens, students, children below five years and general public.
The objective of the programme was to uplift and empower the tribal community of the village by ensuring their full inclusion in various government schemes. As a tribal-centric initiative under the “Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan,” the campaign focused mainly on addressing the challenges faced by tribal populations. The programme aimed to bring every tribal household under the coverage of all the key government schemes.
The programme also, aimed to achieve saturation in the enrolment of Aadhar, Ayushman Bharat Health Account Card (ABHA Card) and Golden Card with a special focus on the elderly, children and other vulnerable members of the community. By working towards complete saturation in scheme enrolment and health screenings, the campaign intended to bridge developmental gaps, strengthen service delivery at the grassroots level and promote the socio-economic upliftment of the tribal community.
A total of 82 Aadhar enrolments and 40 digital Ayushman Bharat Card were completed during the drive, which also included mobile number updates, name and detail corrections and fresh enrolments particularly for young children. Additionally, TB screening, Mental health councelling, Non- Communicable Diseases (NCD) Screening, Integrated counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) Counselling were conducted as part of the ongoing health awareness initiative.
The campaign witnessed active participation from the community and showcased strong inter-departmental coordination, aiming to ensure the effective delivery of welfare schemes to the grassroots level.
