In a significant initiative to promote the holistic principles of health and well-being through yoga, the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Gangtok successfully conducted a series of yoga awareness and wellness activities from 11th to 13th June 2025, in collaboration with the Black Cat Division, Indian Army, Sikkim and the G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE).
On 11th June 2025, a Yoga Session was organized at the New Military Station, Black Cat Division, specifically for male Army personnel. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from 95 Army personnel, who actively engaged in learning and practicing the Common Yoga Protocol, designed by the Ministry of Ayush for the International Day of Yoga.
The session was led by Dr. Sreelakshmi R.S., Research Officer (Ayurveda), with support from Dr. Animesh Sen and Ms. Sunita Maity, who assisted in demonstrating the yoga techniques. Continuing the momentum, a Yoga Samavesh was conducted on 12th June 2025 at the Auditorium, Black Cat Division, exclusively for female Army personnel and families.
The event had 56 participants, all of whom demonstrated a deep interest in integrating yoga into their daily fitness routines. On 13th June 2025, an event titled ‘Harit Yoga’ was held at the G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, Pangthang, Sikkim, in association with GBPNIHE.
The day’s activities included a tree plantation drive, a yoga session, and a free health check-up camp for attendees. From GBPNIHE, Dr. Rajesh Joshi, Regional Head, along with faculty members, office staff, and research scholars, actively participated in the program, emphasizing the importance of environmental consciousness integrated with personal health.
All sessions included detailed demonstrations of the Common Yoga Protocol, aimed at encouraging a disciplined and balanced lifestyle. These events exemplify RARI Gangtok’s commitment to public outreach and community well-being through the integration of traditional health practices such as yoga and Ayurveda.
The collaboration with the Indian Army and GBPNIHE reflects a growing recognition of yoga's role in building resilience, discipline, and holistic health in the Himalayan region.
