VKSA Campaign Successfully Concludes in Namchi District
Namchi, 12 June:
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), a major campaign launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), was successfully carried out across all blocks of Namchi District from 29th May to 12th June 2025.
This campaign was led by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), South Sikkim, with strong support from ICAR institutes and various State Government departments such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Fisheries, and ATMA. The main objective of the campaign was to bring scientific knowledge and government schemes directly to the farmers under the theme “Lab to Land.”
The Abhiyan witnessed the esteemed presence of Hon’ble MLA cum Advisor Shri Nar Bahadur Pradhan (Advisor to the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, AH&VS, and Fisheries) and Hon’ble MLA cum Advisor Shri Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia (Advisor to the Buildings and Housing Department). The active participation of Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat Members and local Panchayat representatives further reinforced community engagement in the programme.
The programme followed a collaborative approach where agricultural scientists, departmental officials, and field-level workers worked together to raise awareness about modern farming methods, sustainable agricultural practices, and government schemes. The goal was to improve farm productivity and enhance the income of farmers across the district.
During the campaign, experts from various departments provided detailed information on government schemes and support systems available to farmers. Technologies developed by ICAR-Sikkim Centre, ICAR-NRC for Orchids, and the College of Horticulture under CAU were demonstrated and explained to help farmers adopt better techniques in crop and livestock management. Awareness was also created about crop insurance and cattle insurance to help protect farmers from financial losses due to natural calamities or animal diseases.
Farmers benefited in many ways through this campaign. They were given essential agricultural inputs to support their work in the fields. Soil Health Cards were distributed to help them understand the condition and nutrient status of their land. Many farmers were also registered for important government schemes like PM-KISAN and PMFBY. In addition, reading materials in the form of leaflets and folders were handed out to help them gain a better understanding of the schemes and new technologies.
The VKSA campaign also created a platform for farmers to directly interact with agricultural scientists and government officials. This helped in understanding the real challenges faced by farmers and encouraged the adoption of better farming practices. It brought scientists, officials, and farmers closer and promoted practical learning and awareness.
The final day of the campaign was marked by the presence of Smt. Nirmala Moktan, Additional Director (Agriculture), Namchi District. She appreciated the hard work and coordination of all those involved in the campaign and congratulated them for reaching out effectively to the farming community.
She expressed her satisfaction that the campaign had successfully created awareness among farmers and helped them connect with valuable agricultural knowledge and government support services.
The VKSA campaign proved to be a meaningful step toward strengthening the agricultural sector and empowering farmers in Namchi District.
