72nd Battalion, SSB Yuksam Carries Out Plantation Drive on World Environment Day
Gyalshing,June 6: To mark World Environment Day 2025, the 72nd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Yuksam, organized a large-scale plantation campaign promoting eco-friendly living. The initiative took place in the vicinity of Khecheopalri Lake, Sikkim’s first Ramsar site.
The plantation drive witnessed active participation from battalion officers, SSB personnel, and members of the Sandiksha family. Together, they planted a variety of fruit-bearing and shade-providing saplings, emphasizing the importance of sustainable environmental practices. Tourists visiting the area also joined the event enthusiastically, lauding the battalion’s efforts and pledging their commitment to future afforestation initiatives.
As part of the broader awareness campaign, the Border Outpost (BOP) at Nambu conducted environmental education activities—including painting competitions, quizzes, and plantation drives—at a government secondary school in the border village of Nambu.
