Namchu, 26 May : Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities CRC Sikkim Under the administrative control of National Institute of Locomotor Disabilities NILD Kolkata DEPWD MSJE GOI, in collaboration with District Hospital Namchi, Sikkim celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week by organising a 2-day Mental Health Awareness program at District Hospital Namchi on dated 22nd and 23rd May 2025.

• Dr. S. N. Adhikary, Chief Medical officer, District hospital, Namchi as the chief guest.
• Dr. Urgen District Nodal Officer, District hospital, Namchi and
• Dr. Raj Singh, District Medical Superintendent, District hospital, Namchi.

Dr. Adhikary thanked CRC-SIKKIM to organise a program of such importance at its premises.
Dr. Urgen District Nodal Officer, District hospital, Namchi stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to be made with Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists and Rehabilitation professionals in dealing with mental health issues in the district.
Dr. Raj Singh, District Medical Superintendent, District hospital, stressed the importance of communication and interaction among family members and members of society to address mental health issues which are more of lifestyle based in modern age.
Pushpanjali Gupta, Director, CRC Sikkim riterated CRC’s s commitment to facilitate the state government in providing services to the person with disabilities by way of couselling programs for parents, disability orientation programs to general educators, provision of need based assistive devices and other stake holders on related issues.
The recently held Purple fest by CRC Sikkim at Pakyong district in collaboration with District Administration, Pakyong under Shri Rohan Agawane, IAS, DM Pakyong for showcasing the talent of Divyangjan was a milestone and one of the first of its kind that has boosted their self esteem and confidence in a big way.
That was a big step toward inclusion, Ms Gupta added. In her discourse and welcome speech she first of all thanked Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director, National Institute of Locomotor Disabilities, NILD Kolkata, for giving the platform for organizing all activities of CRC Sikkim.
Dr. Eden, Psychiatrist, District Hospital, Namchi, DNO, (DMHP), gave a ppt presentation on “Management of Mental Health issues” followed by a fruitful interaction with participants.
Counselors from various Primary Health Centres of Namchi like Binita Sharma from Ravangla, Manjana limbo from Yangyang, Jeena Tamang from Bermoick and Sanjay Biswakarma from Namthang attended this program along with the nursing staff of District Hospital, Namchi.
The program ended with a vote of thanks by Farnash Begum, Special Educator, CRC Sikkim.
