Namchi, 23 May:
Upon the receipt of written complaint from local residents of Dong Denchung regarding sale of goods beyond expiry date especially edible items, today.
The team comprising of Mr. Mukesh Dahal, Block Development Officer, Nandugaon, Mr. Tenzing Bhutia, DCSO/Namchi, Ms. Shuyogya Pradhan, Office Assistant, Mr. Udesh Hang Limboo, ASI, Miss Amrita Bishwakarma, ASI and Miss Dezina Lepcha, Asstt. Inspector conducted random inspection of the following Fair Price Shops in the vicinity of Dong Denchung:-
1. Mr. Shiva Kumar Subba r/o Dong
2. Ms. Phichung Lepcha r/o Dong Phatak
3. Ms. Sabitri Rai r/o Denchung turning point
4. Mr. Garja Man Chettri r/o Denchung near party office
5. Ms. Ambika Chettri r/o Denchung near party office
During the inspection, it was found that most of the shops lack hygiene and have been directed to maintain the same and have been told to levy a fine as per the terms & conditions laid down on the license in case of violation of the same.
The shops found selling already expired edible items which is consumed on a daily basis like Biscuits, varieties of chips, spices, paneer, Basen instant noodles like waiwai, Thukpa, maggi, cold drinks, packed aata, puffed rice, papad, tea leaf (city gold) beaten rice, chocolates, mixed spice used for kitchen cooking, packed milk (Amul Taaza), sauce like tomato ketchup dark soya sauce etc.
A large number of above items have been seized by the team and have been kept under the custody of BDO Nandugaon for future case reference. The main point during the visit was that only elderly person were present in their shops that lack knowledge of expiry date though the license holders were educated enough.
It is reiterated that the government has authorized Hon’ble Panchayats to issue license in the rural areas and in lieu the Assistant Directors posted at GPU are issuing trade license. On behalf of Food & Civil Supplies Department, Block Development Officer concerned is requested to brief Licensing Authority about the pros & cons duly doing away with red-tapism as well.
