Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Agriculture Department, Namchi District organized an Awareness cum Sensitization Programme on Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme at Barfung, Ravangla Block. The programme aimed to enhance awareness among farmers regarding central government schemes and facilitate on-the-spot registration for eligible beneficiaries.
The programme was attended by Ms. Vaishnu Rai, Deputy Director Agriculture; Mr. Ezekiel Khawas, Agriculture Development Officer, Ravangla; Mr. Palchen Gyalpoo Sherpa, Hon’ble Panchayat Kewzing Bakhim GPU, Officials from Fisheries and Horticulture Departments, Agriculture Inspectors, field staff, and local farmers.
Mr. Mani Chettri, Block Technology Manager, ATMA, delivered the welcome address while also highlighting ATMA’s commitment to empowering the farming community through timely technology dissemination.
Ms. Vaishnu Rai spoke on the significance of maintaining crop and soil health. She underscored the role of soil amendments in improving fertility and supporting plant growth. Additionally, she encouraged farmers to be a member of Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs) to collectively market their produce and strengthen their economic
resilience.
Mr. Dayal Rai, resource person for PM-KISAN scheme, urged farmers to complete their registration process by May 31, 2025, and elaborated on the scheme’s eligibility criteria and benefits.
Mr. Arbind Darjee, representative from Future Generali Insurance Company informed farmers about Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) explaining about the premium details and notified crops for Kharif season under the scheme.
Officials from Fisheries Department highlighted on various initiatives designed to support fish farmers and bridge infrastructural gaps within the sector.
Mr. Mingma Sherpa, a progressive farmer from Bakhim Ward was felicitated in recognition of his contributions to innovative and sustainable farming practices. On-the-spot registration for PM-KISAN was also carried out during the event.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where farmers raised queries on PM-KISAN and PMFBY schemes, which were addressed by officials to clarify procedures and benefits.
