Report on the Landslide Incident at Sokey Gaon below 11th Mile on 22nd May 2025

Location: Sokey Gaon below 11th Mile under Nandok BAC
On 22nd May 2025, a major landslide occurred at Sokey Gaon below 11th Mile under Nandok BAC at approximately 11:00 AM impacting five labourers working on a JJM pipeline project. The landslide came from the uphill area.
The five labourers affected were:
1. Kumar Subba.
2. Tshering Bhutia.
3. Suraj Sharma.
4. Deepak Adhikari.
5. Phuchung Lepcha.
Initially, Kumar Subba was reported missing but was later found alive after being rescued by the State Disaster Response Force led by ASP, Tshering Yangzom Bhutia and Team Commander, ASI Narendra, Disaster Management officials posted under Nandok BAC and the local public who assisted the rescue operations.
Tshering Bhutia sustained head injuries and was immediately sent to the hospital for treatment. The other three workers namely Suraj Sharma, Deepak Adhikari and Phuchung Lepcha escaped the landslide.
The site was promptly visited by the Hon’ble Area MLA, Mr Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, 23-Syari Tathangchen Constituency, Mr Abhijeet Patil, IAS, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Gangtok, Mr Sonam Wongyal Lepcha, Deputy Director, District Disaster Management Authority, Mr TT Gensapa, Block Development Officer, Nandok BAC, Ms Tara Sharma, Station House Officer, Ranipool Thana and medical team from Ranipool Urban Public Health Centre.
