GANGTOK, May 21
Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) in coordination with Urban Development Department (UDD) carried out a massive cleanliness drive from Ganju Lama Dwar till Paljor Stadium including MG Marg, celebrating the Hon’ble Prime Minister's visit scheduled on 29th May’ 25 on the occasion of 50 years of Statehood celebration of Sikkim.
The drive was divided into four groups covering four different locations from Ganju Lama Dwar to Shiva Mandir, Shiva Mandir to Hospital Dara, Hospital Dara to Paljor stadium and MG Marg.
All the four zones had participation of large number of local public, including officials of GMC and UDD. The drive was monitored by Mayor, GMC, Nell Bahadur Chettri, Deputy Mayor, Tshering Palden Bhutia and Commissioner, GMC, RB Bhandari.
Speaking with media, MLA Gangtok cum Advisor, UDD, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa said that cleanliness is next to godliness so it's important for everyone including Mayor GMC, Deputy Mayor, Councillors, GMC, UDD officials, Staffs, safai Mitras and local populace to come forward in keeping our surrounding clean.
Mayor, GMC, Nell Bahadur Chettri, said that the special drive is being carried out in anticipation to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s visit to Sikkim on 29th May’ 25. Swachh Bharat Mission is the PM's vision and we under the leadership of the HCM felt that the best welcome we can extend to our PM is by facilitating cleanliness. Likewise, we feel by initiating such massive drive we can also fulfill the Hon’ble Chief Ministers vision of ‘SUNAULO ANI SAMRIDDHA SIKKIM’ too.
Deputy Mayor, GMC, Tshering Pladen Bhutia said that GMC has always kept their foot forward in cleanliness of Gangtok but this special drive is a positive gesture from GMC, UDD and the citizens of Gangtok to welcome our Hon’ble Prime Minister. She further appealed the citizens residing along the Ganju Lama Dwar till Paljor Stadium to keep their surroundings clean so that we are able to present the best practices on cleanliness to the Hon’ble PM Sir. Apart from cleanliness we also appeal the citizens residing along the route to decorate the front face of their premises following the PM visit as well.
Executive Councillor, Upper MG Marg, Sundeep Malu informed that MG Marg is visualized as a clean location and it has been living up to the expectation. We feel cleaning of the surrounding not just showcases our involvement, habit, practices we inculcate with regards to cleanliness but also its importance for our health and well being.
He went to express his gratitude towards the area MLA, Gangtok Constituency, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, Mayor, Deputy Mayor, councillors of various wards of GMC including officials, staffs, Safai Mitras of GMC, UDD and local gentries for their unwavering support in making the special cleanliness drive a grand success.
The special cleanliness drive had the presence of Commissioner GMC RB Bhandari, Joint Director UDD, Joint Commissioner GMC, Bazaar Officers, inspectors, other officials, staffs of GMC and UDD.
