Tourists Rescued Safely by 72nd Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal in High-Altitude Remote Area
On 29 April 2025 at approximately 6:00 PM, due to inclement weather, heavy rain, and snowfall, eight civilian tourists who had commenced their journey on 24 April from the 36th Battalion AOR (Uttare area of responsibility) and were heading towards Nayapatal, became stranded. Accompanying them were one photographer, one trekking guide, and one porter. In these adverse conditions, the porter sought help from Border Post Yambung of the 72nd Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal, situated at an altitude of 12,246 feet above sea level.
Upon receiving the information, a special rescue team was immediately dispatched from Border Post Yambung of the 72nd Battalion, SSB. The rescue team was led by V Sub-Inspector/GD Dinesh Kumar, along with CTGD Ugrasen Tiwari and CT/GD Manish Kumar. Braving severe weather, snowfall, and treacherous terrain, the team displayed exceptional courage and dedication to safely rescue and escort all tourists back to the Yambung Border Post.
The heroic and humanitarian act was promptly reported to the Battalion Headquarters. As per the instructions from the headquarters, the documents of all tourists were thoroughly verified, and proper arrangements for dinner and overnight stay were made at the Yambung Border Post. The tourists expressed their heartfelt gratitude in writing for the promptness, empathy, and assistance extended by the Sashastra Seema Bal.
The 72nd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal will continue to serve with the same dedication and commitment in the border regions.
