Gangtok, 25th April 2025:
An Orientation and training program on Sikkim E-Services and Disaster Management for Martam Block Administrative Centre was held at the Conference Hall of the District Administrative Centre, DAC, Gangtok, today.
The meeting was chaired by Mr Tushar Nikhare, District Magistrate - cum –Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). It was attended by Block Development Officer, Martam and his staff along with newly appointed Disaster Management Officials from BAC, Martam.
At the outset, Assistant Director, Mr Sital Sharma delivered a presentation on the usage of e-services to obtain various certificates which can be easily availed and tracked by the public. He also emphasised the various benefits of the e- services.
Following, Mr Sonam Wongyal Lepcha, Deputy Director, District Disaster Management Authority(DDMA) delivered a presentation on the basics of Disaster Management to the attendees and talked about key important terms related to Disaster Management.
The District Magistrate and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, in his address, emphasised the importance of strengthening e-services at the grassroots level. He highlighted that these digital services would significantly benefit the public by saving time and eliminating the need to visit the District or Sub-Division Offices to obtain certificates. Citizens can now apply online and receive real-time updates via text messages on the status of their applications, he added.
He further stated that there is no need for physical presence at the office while the certificates are being processed by the issuing authority, adding that this step toward digital governance enhances both efficiency and accessibility. Addressing the newly appointed Disaster Management staff, he underscored the need for vigilance and preparedness, especially during the monsoon season.
He also encouraged Disaster Management officials to promote the formation of School Disaster Clubs and welcomed innovative suggestions and mitigation project proposals that could be presented before the State Executive Committee.
