PRELIMINARY REPORT OF DISASTER CAUSED by the heavy downpours of 21st & 22nd April 2025 under Gangtok District.
The District Administration under the direction of the District Collector, formed teams and visited the affected areas immediately on 21st April & 22nd April 2025.
The heavy downpours of 21st April had an impact mostly on the Jhoras, roads and the households located below the roads, sewerage line and Drinking Water pipelines mostly within GMC areas. However, the heavy downpours of 22nd April had extended the damages to rural areas as well like numerous households, road blockages, disconnection of PHE pipelines and power disruption in the entire district.
ADC/HQ & DPO/DDMA along with Area MLA, Kabi visited the upper Chandmari areas, Bojoghari and Selep Tanky, Enchey Stretch where around 25-30 pine trees were uprooted by yesterday's whirlwind along with heavy rains and caused damages to many households.
The affected families were provided tarpaulins & poly pipes as an immediate relief and advise them to stay in safer place if theres heavy rains.
Similarly, ADC/Gangtok, BDO Nandok, concern RS & DDMA staff, representatives from the Power Department, Forest along with Area MLA, Syari Constituency visited Dicheling Areas, Tambutar Saramsa, Dhakal Goan, DPH, Lower Syari . The team assessed damage to multiple houses caused by fallings of trees.
Likewise, SDM Gangtok with line department officials inspected the Lingding road where the contractor of Urban Housing Colony has kept the construction materials on the road side making the area vulnerable to landslides.
The contractor was directed to remove the material as early as possible to avoid any untoward incident in the area.
