Friday Field/Farm Day – Mission Revival of Barren Land for Cultivation, Episode 33: A Step Towards Sustainable Agriculture and Community Empowerment
Pakyong, April 19: The Officers and Staff of the Rural Development Department, Pakyong District, extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), for his unwavering support and visionary leadership in the ongoing initiative Friday Field/Farm Day – Mission Revival of Barren Land for Cultivation and its promotional movement “Connect Earth, Sweat Contributions Centre”.
On the occasion of Good Friday, more than 90 participants — including Panchayat members, departmental officers, staff, and local farmers — actively took part in the field activities aimed at reviving barren land for productive use. The event focused on large-scale preparation of land for the cultivation of ginger and turmeric at Amba Mamring Gram Panchayat Unit and Taza Gram Panchayat Unit. This initiative not only promotes agricultural sustainability but also aims to significantly enhance the Own Source Revenue (OSR) of the respective Gram Panchayats.
Participants demonstrated strong commitment and teamwork, embodying the spirit of the “Connect Earth” initiative. This movement has become a symbol of social responsibility, inspiring communities to reconnect with the land and contribute meaningfully to environmental well-being and future food security.
The event reaffirmed the belief that reviving barren land is not just an agricultural task but a mission of societal relevance — one that will benefit future generations and strengthen the local economy.
