Awareness-cum-Ginger Seed Distribution Program Organized by Horticulture Department, Gangtok District
Gangtok, April 3, 2025: The Horticulture Department, Gangtok District, successfully organized an Awareness-cum-Ginger Seed Rhizome Distribution Program under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER) Phase IV. The program aimed to promote ginger cultivation among local farmers by distributing high-quality ginger seed rhizomes to enhance agricultural productivity and improve their economic well-being.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including:

• Mr. Laden Bhutia – FPO President

• Mr. Passang Tamang – Additional Director, Horticulture Department, Gangtok District
• Mrs. Tashi Choki Bhutia – Deputy Director, Horticulture Department
• Dr. Anjana Pradhan – Horticulture Development Officer (HDO), Martam
A total of 204 beneficiaries from Lower Tinek, Upper Tinek, Sakyong, Chisopani, and Rabdang wards received ginger seed rhizomes of two high-yielding varieties, Bhaise and Majhauley. These varieties were carefully selected based on their yield potential, disease resistance, and suitability to the local climate.
The objective of the program was to empower farmers by providing them with quality ginger seeds, enabling them to increase their horticultural output and gain better market access. By encouraging large-scale ginger cultivation, the initiative is expected to boost local horticultural productivity, enhance farmers’ income, and contribute to the overall economic growth of the region.
