"Empowering Fisheries: The Impact of Field Staff on PMMSY and MMMUY Initiatives"
Pakyong, March 28: The field staff, including Fisheries Guard and Assistant Fisheries Guard from the Fisheries Department of Pakyong district, are consistently overseeing various sites such as trout raceways, backyard ornamental units, medium-scale ornamental units, fish kiosks and carp fin fish hatcheries in Rhenock, Rongli, and Pakyong blocks under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. Their role is to ensure these facilities are constructed efficiently, safely, and in line with design specifications and guidelines.
Launched in 2020, the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana is a government initiative aimed at boosting the fisheries sector in India. The scheme seeks to increase fish production, modernise infrastructure, and improve the livelihoods of fishermen, all while promoting sustainability. Site visits are crucial to evaluate the feasibility, infrastructure, and environmental conditions required for successful aquaculture.
In addition, the field staff are also spreading awareness about the Mukhya Mantri Matsya Utpadan Yojana (MMMUY) and its benefits. MMMUY is a state-level program designed to strengthen the fisheries sector by offering financial support, including a 60% subsidy for purchasing fish seeds.
