BAC Dzongu, March 21: In a profound commitment to social welfare and inclusive development, the Sauliyat (benefits) distribution programme was organised today at the Block Administrative Centre, Passingdang. The event was graced by the Honourable Minister-cum-Area MLA, Shri Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, as the Chief Guest, alongside the esteemed presence of Panchayat Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Panchayat members from all seven GPUs of Dzongu block. Also in attendance were Shri Gideon Lepcha, SDM Dzongu, Shri Mahendra Tamang, BDO Dzongu, Shri Thinlay Namgyal Lepcha, Deputy Director, Education Department, Shri Netuk Lepcha, Women and Child Welfare Department, officials from the Forest and Police Departments, the Manager of SBS Passingdang, representatives from Mangan Nagar Panchayat, beneficiaries from various GPUs, and the dedicated staff of BAC Passingdang.
The programme marked a significant milestone in the implementation of government welfare initiatives, facilitating the formal distribution of essential benefits allocated to economically disadvantaged families in Dzongu during the Janta Mela held prior to the General Election 2024. The assistance provided-including GCI sheets, inverters for families with school-going children, support under the Sikkim Aama Shayog Scheme, water filters, pressure cookers for BPL families, and serving bowls for Self-Help Groups-exemplifies the compassionate governance and people-centric vision of the Honourable Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay).
The Chief Guest personally handed over inverters, pressure cookers, water filters, and serving bowls to beneficiaries from all seven GPUs, symbolizing the government’s dedication to ensuring that vital resources reach those who need them most. These welfare schemes are not mere acts of assistance but powerful instruments of empowerment, designed to uplift the most vulnerable members of society by fostering self-reliance and enhancing their quality of life.
In his address, the Honourable Minister-cum-Area MLA, Shri Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, lauded the empathy and far-reaching vision of the Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay). He reassured the people that many more pro-poor and development-driven initiatives are in the pipeline, further strengthening the government’s unwavering commitment to social upliftment.
Dzongu, with its breathtaking yet challenging terrain, has long faced geographical and infrastructural barriers that hinder connectivity, particularly during the unforgiving monsoon season. Recognizing these challenges, the Honourable Minister-cum-Area MLA proactively intervened to secure the timely procurement of these essential provisions from the RDD store in Gangtok. The people of Dzongu extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Minister for Rural Development, Shri Arun Upreti, and RDD Secretary, Ms. Norzing Tshering, for prioritizing Dzongu’s unique needs and acknowledging the hardships faced by its resilient communities.
Dzongu’s distinct ecological and cultural heritage, coupled with its economic vulnerabilities, calls for sustained and targeted interventions. The region has historically battled economic marginalization and environmental adversities, particularly recurrent natural disasters that often leave it isolated from the rest of the state. However, under the visionary leadership of Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), the Government of Sikkim has remained steadfast in its resolve to usher in a new era of sustainable development and holistic progress. Over the years, Dzongu has witnessed a transformative shift across multiple sectors, including rural infrastructure, employment generation, agricultural revitalization, healthcare advancement, and educational empowerment, paving the way for a self-sustaining and progressive future.
Furthermore, ambitious developmental projects are on the horizon, aimed at positioning Dzongu as a model of resilience and progress. The people of Dzongu express their profound appreciation for the Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), and the Honourable Minister-cum-Area MLA, Shri Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, for their unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and compassionate governance. Their relentless efforts continue to serve as a beacon of hope, guiding Dzongu toward a future of prosperity, self-sufficiency, and inclusive growth.
